Conway Stewart was started in the UK in 1905 by Frank Jarvis and Thomas Howard Garner, in a small first floor office in Paternoster Row London. They initially sold pens made up of parts that they bought in from other manufacturers. , During The 'Golden Years' between the 1920’s and 1940’s Conway Stewart enjoyed a lofty reputation as the premium British brand and produced some of their best designs during this period. The long lasting 14 carat gold Duro nibs are an integral part of their success along with their beautiful colour schemes and finishes.
The Conway Stewart No.76 here in blue herringbone pattern is a beautiful full length fountain pen. A highly desirable pattern which standards out today as one of Conway Stewart's most zany and extravagant finishes. The pen is a full sized pen at 136mm, very well balanced with the option to post the cap to the barrel. for an extra long pen. The pen has been fully restored in house and is in excellent condition. The nib is a semi flex, offering line variation from a medium to a broad. At the time of writing we also have a green herringbone No.76 in stock.
There are no major imperfections to note, no chips splits or engravings.
Very minor brassing to the gold cap band, the hard rubber section is a little discoloured and there are some tiny signs of surface wear on the barrel, but overall a superb shiny example, fully restored and ready to write. The imprint is legible but not strikingly bold, but nonetheless clear
The nib is a gorgeous Conway Stewart no.5 nib, which writes with good ink flow and a little feedback. A nice semi flex with Line variation from a medium to a broad. Do take a look at the writing sample in the photo gallery.
