Thomas De La Rue Ltd began manufacturing the Onoto range in 1905 and they quickly established themselves in an already densely populated marketplace. The pens were successful because of the excellent quality of the materials used and the superior design of the filling system. Onoto pens were as good, if not better, than all their contemporaries including Parker, Watermans and Conway Stewart.
Here we have a stunning gold plated pen and pencil set. The fountain pen is a lovely writer, with a De La Rue 22 nib, which writes with ample line variation, everything you may wish from a vintage nib of this calibre. The pencil is in exceptional condition having rarely been used. A superbly preserved set housed in a modern ONOTO case.
There are no major imperfections to note, no chips splits or engravings.
The pencil is in near perfect condition, with only minor signs of brassing and wear. It carries lead and is ready to write
The fountain pen shows signs of wear, brassing to the gold plating in places, and a few dings on the main body and cap top, and scratches to the rear of the barrel. Nonetheless it is a very presentable pen, the gold plating is still bright and beautiful
The nib is a gorgeous semi flex nib, which writes with good ink flow and very little feedback. A true semi flex with Line variation from a fine to a broad. Do take a look at the writing sample in the photo gallery.
