Thomas De La Rue Ltd began manufacturing the Onoto range in 1905 and they quickly established themselves in an already densely populated marketplace. The pens were successful because of the excellent quality of the materials used and the superior design of the filling system. Onoto pens were as good, if not better, than all their contemporaries including Parker, Watermans and Conway Stewart.
Here we have a stunning gold plated pen and pencil set. The fountain pen is a lovely writer, with a De La Rue 22 nib, which writes a fine to medium line. The set has been serviced in house, and comes presented in its original ONOTO case with instructions.
There are no major imperfections to note, no chips splits or engravings.
Both pen and pencil show signs of wear.
The fountain pen has some plate loss at the foot of the grip section, and a small chip there too.
Both pen and pencil have marks and wear around their tops (possible teething) see photos. The pencil shows some cosmetic wear on the barrel too.
Despite these imperfections, both are lovely and shiny examples, fully working, and still have a lovely aesthetic quality.
