Gilded with Gold Trim & Large Montblanc Snowflake Cap

Germany c1999 - Model No:3459

Original 18k Gold Montblanc Nib - Medium

Piston Filled Safety Fountain Pen

Description (Excerpt from montblanc.com)

Just as extraordinary as this Prussian king is the 'Patron of Art Edition Friedrich II the Great' made in his honour. The gold-plated barrel of Edition 4810 is decorated by two rings embellished with a pattern of curves. These, like the elegant clip, are also gold plated.

Overview

The pen is a pocket sized 'safety pen', an ingenious mechanism enables the pen to be screwed back into the barrel to protect it from damage. The beauty of the design is you have a small pocket sized pen at a dainty: 114mm from which the cap can be screwed to the end of the barrel to give a full sized fountain pen with gravitas.

The pen is a piston filler, with an 18-karat gold nib, which carries an engraving of the royal monogram of “Fredericus Rex”.

Condition:

The set is in near mint condition.

It comes as a complete set, with outer sleeve, inner sleeve, international service certificate, and the pen bears its original 'M for MEDIUM' retail sticker.

Imperfections

There are no major imperfections to note, no splits cracks or engravings.

The pen has been looked after extremely well, it shows only the lightest signs of surface wear.

The box shows some wear with a small chip to the left hand corner (please see photos)

Instructions

The pen is designed just like the 'safety pens' of old, whereby the nib retracts into the barrel to prevent it from damage.

To write, remove the cap and twist the nob at the rear of the barrel. The nib thus retracts and it can be filled as you would an ordinary piston filled fountain pen

Submerge the entire nib in ink, twist the rear piston nob until filled. Wipe of excess ink.

The cap can be 'posted' to the rear of the barrel as pictured in photo 6. This is achieved by screwing the cap onto the end of the barrel, giving you a full sized fountain pen.

Please note:

You MUST retract the nib before you put the cap on! Failing to do so will damage the nib.

We recommend posting the pen every time you write, this adds to the balance of the pen, and it means when you unscrew the lid from the barrel, the nib retracts automatically.
