14k Gold Warranted Nib - Full Flex
Lever Filled Fountain Pen: restored and ready to write
A lovely vintage Blackbird in black chased hard rubber, with 'rippled' chevron pattern.
This pen has an extraordinary nib, a warranted 14k gold nib, which was likely to be a replacement nib issued by Mabie Todd, or the original, as Blackbird pens were issued with nibs made by other manufacturers.
Either way, the nib is a delight, it is a full flex nib, offering line variation from a fine to a double and even triple broad. It is not so 'flexy' as to be a wet noodle, it does allow for quicker writing, and it is not so wet as to be a wet noodle.
A treasure for calligraphers and lovers of vintage flex nibs. They don't make them like this anymore!
The fountain pen is in excellent condition.
The pen has been taken apart, cleaned, polished and fitted with a new ink sac. The nib has been tuned and writes beautifully.
There are no major imperfections to note, no chips cracks or engravings
The pen shows a few signs of use commensurate with age, visible through discolouration of the barrel, (it is a lighter shade of black than the grip section)
Overall though a very well preserved pen
The nib is a full flex beauty.
It is not so wet as to be described as a 'wet noodle' but the line variation is considerable, and with light pressure you can move from a fine to a double broad with ease.
