The Story
Conway Stewart was started in the UK in 1905 by Frank Jarvis and Thomas Howard Garner, in a small first floor office in Paternoster Row London. They initially sold pens made up of parts that they bought in from other manufacturers. , During The 'Golden Years' between the 1920’s and 1940’s Conway Stewart enjoyed a lofty reputation as the premium British brand and produced some of their best designs during this period. The long lasting 14 carat gold Duro nibs are an integral part of their success along with their beautiful colour schemes and finishes.

Here we have an early example of a Conway Stewart No.206M, in wood grain effect Vulcanite with 9ct gold filled cap band. This is a rather uncommon example, with little documentation around its manufacture. The 206 model was produced as early as 1917 up to the late 1930s, this 206M was produced at the 75/82 Shoe Lane Premises in the 1930's as the accompanying warranty suggests and was likely sold in the mid 1930's.

The pen comes fully restored, with its original box and paperwork.

The Nitty-Gritty
There are no major imperfections to note, no chips splits or engravings.

There is a little discolouration to the Vulcanite, as is customary with this material. But it is very subtle indeed and hardly distinguishable even when uncapped. There is some brassing to the trim and cap band, and the imprint is faint, but legible.

The Barrel Imprint Reads: The Conway Stewart No.206M

The box is worn and its edges are coming away, the warranty has some historical scribbles on it.

Care has been taken not to over-polish or alter the vulcanite. This is a wonderful piece of writing history, and it writes beautifully!
