Conway Stewart was started in the UK in 1905 by Frank Jarvis and Thomas Howard Garner, in a small first floor office in Paternoster Row London. They initially sold pens made up of parts that they bought in from other manufacturers. , During The 'Golden Years' between the 1920’s and 1940’s Conway Stewart enjoyed a lofty reputation as the premium British brand and produced some of their best designs during this period. The long lasting 14 carat gold Duro nibs are an integral part of their success along with their beautiful colour schemes and finishes.
This Conway Stewart No.27 is in the gorgeous marbled plum cross hatch pattern with gold filled trim and signature Conway Stewart clip. The pen has been fully restored and is in excellent condition. The 14k Gold nib is a stubbish nib, writing a fine line on the horizontal and a medium on the downstroke, which flexes to a broad with a little pressure.
Do take a look at the writing sample this is a lovely high performing nib which suits everyday writing and more expressive hands.
There are no major imperfections to note, no chips splits or engravings.
The pen has not been discoloured like many do, the imprints are bold and crisp, there is some tarnishing and wear to the gold cap bands and very minor surface wear but overall this is a beautiful pen in full working order
