The Full Story
Mabie Todd & Co. Ltd was originally established as Mabie Todd and Bard of New York, USA in 1873 and began production in the UK in 1905 under licence.
The UK branch bought out the US outfit in the early 1920’s and Mabie Todd became a wholly owned British company, thriving thanks to British preferences for conservative design and reliability and successful advertising campaigns.
This SWAN Leverless is a truly beautiful and timeless pen. The deep lapis lazuli colour is accented by a signature stepped gold clip, stamped SWAN. The nib is a superb semi flex which offers line variation from a fine to a broad. Do checkout the writing sample in the photo gallery.
The pen comes boxes in its original box, and we have printed a copy of the SWAN filling instructions to compliment the pen.
The Nitty Gritty
There are no major imperfections to note, no splits cracks or engravings.
The pen has some very minor surface wear, and when the filling nob is twisted to fill the pen, it protrudes at an odd angle (shown in the last photo) this by no means affects the filling of the pen, the threads are strong and it unscrews and tightens, filling the pen as it should.
The SWAN No.2 nib is a lovely semi flex nib it writes with good ink flow and lovely smoothness with little feedback and ample flex
