The Full Story
Mabie Todd & Co. Ltd was originally established as Mabie Todd and Bard of New York, USA in 1873 and began production in the UK in 1905 under licence.
The UK branch bought out the US outfit in the early 1920’s and Mabie Todd became a wholly owned British company, thriving thanks to British preferences for conservative design and reliability and successful advertising campaigns.
The SWAN Lever Filler had many iterations. This is a mid 1930's version, with gold filled clip and wide cap band and beautiful green marbled pearl finish. A gorgeous pen.
It has been fully restored and the 14k gold nib writes with ample flex from a fine to a broad - a lovely responsive nib - checkout the writing sample!
The Nitty Gritty
There are no major imperfections to note, no splits cracks or engravings.
The pen has some very minor surface wear, in the form of micro scratches to the cap and barrel and slight pitting to the lever bar
Overall though a strikingly lovely pen
