Wahl-Eversharp introduced the Skyline in 1941, designed by Henry Dreyfus who brought his engineering expertise designing locomotives trains to bear on this iconic fountain pen. The Eversharp skyline when held front on looks like a long train, its carriages trailing off into the distance. It is a remarkable design and one of the best selling fountain pens in US history
In 2013 Syd Saperstein acquired the rights to re-produce this vintage classic and create a modern tribute with all the modern trimmings. Photograph 12 shows a vintage eversharp alongside its modern counterpart - as you can see unlike many modern rep-productions he has done a superb job.
The pen features a solid 14k gold medium nib, with a gold plated cap almost indistinguishable from the original vintage ones. The barrel is sleak and tapered with a blind cap, which unscrews to reveal a piston ink converter. The set is housed in a velvet skyline box, with guarantee and instructions. A superb modern edition, solidly built, easy to clean and likely to last generations.
There are no major imperfections to note, no chips splits or engravings.
Only minor signs of handling, otherwise a perfect example. The box shuts firmly, however one edge of the lid shuts further down the case than the other, a minor detail but worth mentioning.
